Company after modernization

The modernization process conducted in 1998-2000 allowed for the elimination of the environmental burden in terms of ambient air, noise and vibration, water and wastewater management, land degradation and waste management.

Air Protection:

  • the plant was rebuilt in December 1999 and an energy-efficient technology was introduced for the production of cement that replaced an outdated, energy consuming "wet" method using four rotary kilns that emitted significant quantities of dust - a single rotary kiln is now producing clinker using the "dry" method, emitting tens of times less amount of dust into the atmosphere;
  • a continuous monitoring system was installed for the monitoring of emissions from the rotary kiln by SICK;
  • high-efficiency dust removal equipment (electrostatic precipitators and fabric filters) was installed on all new production equipment, technology lines and on systems that were not dust-filtered in the past.

Emission factors in kg of pollutant per 1 Mg of cement produced in the years 1982-2012

Water and Wastewater Management:

  • a pumping station was built for sewage generated on the premises. This allowed directing those to the municipal treatment that guarantees the achievement of higher pollutants reduction factor;
  • an outdated factory sewage treatment plant located in the floodplain of the Odra River was excluded from the operation.

Noise and Vibration

  • acoustic protection was introduced for main sources of noise in the form of silencers, enclosures and noise barriers reducing noise permeating from the premises to the environment;
  • two specialist excavators by Japanese Komatsu company were purchased and incorporated into the continuous operation, allowing for complete withdrawal from the sourcing of raw materials from the quarry by blasting, thereby eliminating para-seismic noise and vibration.

Waste Management:

  • in accordance with the decisions - plant has the right to recover waste, which are used as additives to clinker and cement, including - among others -  blast furnace slag, gypsum, etc.;
  • the plant segregates its waste;
  • the waste generated is received by the appropriate authorized external waste reception units.

ECO production

Odra SA Cement Mill continually reduces its impact on the environment. Modernization of equipment, changes in technology and the use of a significant part of industrial waste for other activity can satisfy the most stringent requirements for the protection of the environment.
